This is a pretty well done video! Unfortunately the shot of the hood side vents with the audio about “mechanically operated louvers” isn’t accurate. He’s referring to the shutters in front of the radiator. The hood side vents are manually opened & closed.

Well, yes mechanical stuff DOES have a tendency to break BUT so does electronic. When mechanical stuff breaks it’s “usually” easy to diagnose and repair whereas electronic stuff CAN BE a “crap shoot” affair “at best”.

    • @stevenlarson3316

If you want to forgo efficiency and safety you can eliminate most of the electronics. But most people would not be better off doing that for a small gain in repairability.

What happens with mechanical/gasoline stuff when you are thirty miles out of town and "you have a glitch". It's not about the type of technology, it's about a reliable and repairable it is. And you can repair electronics as well, even on board level. It is harder than most mechanical stuff, but it is mostly not done, because there are no plans anymore, you don't get parts anymore, the companies wants you to buy the next model, so it's best for them if the repair costs almost as much as the new modell...

@ToddAdams1234 yeah, that's true. My point is, that you can have planned obsolescence with electrical as well as with mechanical or gasoline tools. It is possible to built reliable and repairable electrical vehicles or tools. It is a decision that new is often garbage.
